Who are we?

Founder and choir leader Mary Bourne. About me.

Passionate about music, communities, the voice, rivers, stories and songs.  I’ve been told I can ‘build a connection in any room’ which is rather lovely praise. Singing it back was established in 2008 in memory of my Mum who once said I would “make my voice useful”. In 2021 I certainly think she would be proud, having now worked with 1000s of voices all across the world.

Testimonials & Feedback

Thank you so much for coming along and being a guest at my session with The Great Day Choir. My members haven’t stopped talking about it this week, ear wormed by the catchy melody of your song “Do You Hear My Voice?” We loved the approach you took to teaching us the parts, gradually building up our confidence and layering up the harmonies, in such a quick space of time, using your loop pedal. I’ve even had a couple of members go away and write their own songs inspired your work. Thanks again and hope we can have you back again! ~ Great Day Choir, Bristol

Thank you so much again for such a wonderful session yesterday – I know our members enjoyed it so much. Your energy was infectious and inspiring. You’re absolutely right about the members embracing change and I’m so happy that they welcomed you so whole-heartedly and got so much out of the session. The song-writing collaboration segment was also very meaningful in allowing the group to connect, share ideas and think a little more deeply about the ordinary things that give our lives so much significance, joy and meaning during this tough time. We would love to have you back sometime soon, either on zoom or in person, and look forward to potential future collaborations with your choir in more normal times. ~ London International Gospel Choir.

Singing it Back offers weekly adult choirs (currently on zoom). 1:1 voice work, singing workshops, creative retreats, original compositions and sheet music, virtual choir projects, events & concerts. Get in touch from anywhere in the world and let’s collaborate!

Why Sing?

Singing is a way of binding communities together, but most of all it’s fun to work together and be part of a singing group rather than singing alone. Singing allows for shared emotion, it’s a fabulous ‘ice breaker’, an aerobic activity lowering blood pressure and raising endorphins. With so many benefits and so many songs to sing, there’s never a dull moment!

What songs do we sing?

We don’t tend to cover traditional choral pieces and try to have a mixed repertoire from Classical to Pop to Gospel, Folk and Jazz.  New songs are started each term so beginners are always welcome.

We tend to cover songs in 3 or 4 part harmony and in our weekly groups are able to build upon the material each week and have something very satisfying to show at the end of the term. If you’ve wondered what it feels like to sing in a choir, then join one of our groups and find out for yourself.

Why not get in touch and pop along to a weekly rehearsal to see if you’d like to join us for a term?

If you have a group and would like to arrange a workshop for team building in the workplace or community, we’d love to hear from you to see how we can best meet your needs.
